CCK Conducts Field Inspection of Telecommunications Services in Tabiteuea Maiaki

A team of five officers from the Communications Commission of Kiribati (CCK) departed Tarawa yesterday for Tabiteuea Maiaki to carry out a series of inspections on the quality of telecommunications services available to residents of the island.
This morning, the team paid a courtesy call on the Mayor and the Island Council to formally inform them of the purpose and scope of their visit. The meeting provided an opportunity for the CCK team to outline their programme of work and to hear from local leaders on any communications-related concerns affecting the island community.
During their time in Tabiteuea Maiaki, the CCK team's work will focus on the following key areas:
1. Quality of Service (QoS) – assessing the technical performance of mobile.
2. Quality of Experience (QoE) – gathering feedback directly from users on their day-to-day experience with the mobile services.
3. Service Coverage Check – verifying the extent and reliability of network coverage across the island.
4. Shipstation Inspection – inspecting shipstation apparatus and equipment to ensure compliance with licensing and operational requirements.
5. Starlink Class Licence Check – confirming that operators providing Wi-Fi services via Starlink hold the appropriate class licence and are operating in accordance with CCK regulations.
For Starlink users who are still registered under an overseas address, the CCK team will also be available to provide assistance and guidance on updating their account details to reflect a Kiribati address, in line with local licensing requirements.
The team is expected to commence its work today and will remain in Tabiteuea Maiaki for the next seven days, carrying out inspections and engaging with the community across the island.
