Stephen Whitmee High School

The Universal Access Program (UAP) has been fully rolled out at Stephen Whitmee High School in Abaiang, marking the completion of a significant upgrade to the school's technology infrastructure.

As part of the rollout, the school was equipped with 20 computer units, alongside improvements to internet connectivity and Wi-Fi coverage. Alongside the physical infrastructure, a revenue-generating mechanism was put in place, allowing the school to sustain its connectivity costs through paid Wi-Fi access over time.

Bandwidth for the first year was covered in full as part of the program, and the accompanying revenue model now enables the school to keep its internet services running on its own once that initial support period ends. This arrangement helps safeguard continued access for students and the wider Abaiang community, bridging any funding gap left once UAP support concludes.

According to school administrators, this milestone marks a meaningful step forward for the institution. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to widen access to learning resources, boost the school's research capabilities, and prepare students with the digital competencies needed in today's increasingly connected world.
