Nuotaea Islet of Abaiang

Nuotaea Islet in Abaiang has successfully completed its Universal Access Program (UAP) project, gaining internet and WiFi connectivity through a solar-powered Starlink installation delivered through the Island Council and its councilors.
Under the initiative, the Island Council received a Starlink kit paired with a solar power system to run the equipment, along with WiFi antennas installed to extend coverage and connect households across the islet. To support long-term sustainability, a WiFi sales business model was also established, giving the council and its councilors a means of generating income from the service. The UAP covered the first year of internet subscription costs in full, allowing the system to become fully operational from the outset.
Beyond the initial support period, the Island Council will rely on funds collected through WiFi sales to continue covering subscription costs and to fund ongoing maintenance and repairs, ensuring the service remains reliable well into the future.
Overall, the UAP project represents a transformative milestone for Nuotaea Islet, bringing reliable internet connectivity to households through the leadership of the Island Council while equipping it with a sustainable model to maintain the service long after UAP support ends.
